Letter from Susan Dow, Nantucket, [Massachusetts], to Maria Weston Chapman, 1839 July 13
Description:
Susan Dow writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to asking her if she can have her name enrollled with the Non-Resistants. She writes, "I have long believed that to take human life under any circumastances was a crime of deepest dye, and in Heaven's regard bore the stamp of murder on the darkened page. In regard to some points advanced by this society, I had hitertho imagined they are carried by their advocates far beyond what was expedient or necessary, but since listening to the esteemed H.C. Wright, I have been convinced that to the contrary." She praises Wright and affirms her own devotion to the principles of Non-Resistance.
