Letter from George S. Flint, Rutland, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, 1851 June 16
Description:
George S. Flint writes to Samuel May saying that he had delayed responding to May's letter "for the purpose of consulting those who call themselves Aboltionists, and I think it would not be advisable to attempt holding a meeting in Rutland at present." He tells May that "the congregational society are in a serious difficulty" after a sermon was preached about slavery but that "no pains ought to be spar'd to keep up the antislavery feeling created by that noble man, Geo[rge] Thompson." He also states that they are trying to get "Rev. Daniel Foster of Concord Mass. to lecture in Rutland if he can be obtained."
