Letter from Cyrus Moses Burleigh, Plainfield, C[onnecticu]t, to Samuel May, 1851 Aug[ust] 11th
Description:
C.M. Burleigh writes to Samuel May explaining that he "should have been glad to attend the Oxford Meeting had it been convenient, but I do not expect to remain in New England much longer." He offers to attend conventions, if needed, for the next two Saturdays but warns may that after that, he plans to return to Philadelphia. Burleigh says that he believes they collected $4 in Hopkinton and George W. Putnam took the money with him. He then discusses his absence as editor of the Pennsylvania Freeman newspaper, complaining that his visit to New England has left his "editorials mangled by the printers & finding myself made responsible for nonsense & absurdities without measure."
