Letter from J.H. Crane, Millville, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, 1851 Aug[ust] 11th
Description:
In this letter to Samuel May, J.H. Crane discusses holding an antislavery convention in Millville, suggesting that if William Lloyd Garrison could come, with either Parker Pillsbury or Wendell Phillips, "a meeting could be held with great profit to the cause." Crane says that after speaking in Millville last year, Garrison "told the people he thought he could come again in a few weeks, that is one reason why there has been so much said about his coming again." He tells May he thinks "Garrison & Pillsbury or Phillips would call out more people here now than any others."
