Letter from J.H. Crane, Millville, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, 1851 Sep[tember] 20
Description:
J.H. Crane writes to Samuel May about plans to hold a convention in the area. He tells May that William Henry Fish and Stephen Symonds Foster "both think that a meeting would do more good to be held in Burrillville [Rhode Island] or So[uth] Douglass than in Blackstone." Crane says his "hopes of making any new converts in this this place are very feeble" and that a meeting here would only "keep alive those who are already converted." He leaves the decision whether to hold the convention to May, but says he "should very much like to have another here this fall," assuring him "it is quite a treat for those who stay away from the sectarian meetings to have an A[nti] S[lavery] Convention occasionally that we can attend."
