Letter from William Doane, Charlton, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, [18]52 July 22d
Description:
William Doane writes to Samuel May stating that he has spoken to some of his neighbors about holding an antislavery meeting in Charlton, and he has "not seen one who seemed to manifest any opposition to such a meeting." However, "Some seem much pleased with the idea not so much probably from any love of Anti-Slavery principles as from curiosity." Doane predicts there will be no trouble using the meeting house for a meeting and asks May to write him and say when Stephen S. Foster and Abby Kelley Foster will arrive in the town.
