Letter from Edmund Quincy, Dedham, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, [18]52 July 29th
Description:
Edmund Quincy writes to Samuel May stating that he plans to attend the celebrations in Framingham. Quincy also says that he does not know "who wrote the toast at the Alumni Dinner in honor of my father" but an account of it will probably appear in the National Anti-Slavery Standard newspaper. He then comments that "Charles Sumner has been gagged. I am told it is a perfectly new thing for a Senator to be prevented from saying anything he chose." He also discusses George Thompson's defeat in his Parliamentary election, calling it "a Waterloo defeat for him." Qunicy argues that Thompson's "mistake or misfortune was in not speaking more."
