Letter from J.H. Crane, Worcester, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, 1853 June 14
Description:
J.H. Crane writes to Samuel detailing a conversation he had with "Mr. Capron" [possibly Effingham L. Capron], who had consulted with Stephen S. Foster and Abby Kelley Foster about "the funds of the society." Crane reports that Abby K. Foster thinks that May's "letter to Col. Fisk was miscarried" and he should send another one to get a response. He says that Fisk is in control of the society's funds and Crane expects "he will pay over the $50 immediately." He assures May that they are "confident that the money if left at your disposal will be used to the best advantage." Crane also states that there is not enough time to hold their quarterly meeting at Blackstone and Millville next Sunday and it should be moved to Milford. He suggests that if the meeting were held "in the course of a month or six weeks, or as soon as convenient, I think more could be accomplished than at Blackstone next Sunday."
