Letter from Harriet Beecher Stowe, Andover, [Massachusetts], to Moses Dresser Phillips, [1855] March 3
Description:
Harriet Beecher Stowe writes to Mr. Phillips of Phillips, Sampson, & Company in regards to placating [Louis Antoine] Godey in a copyright dispute for his book. She writes, "it is altogether customary as you know for authors to reprint in book form their magazine articles. Miss Leslie, who publishes in the Lady's book did so-& no gentleman would even think of raising objections." She mentions what Mr. Stowe wants to do but passes this dispute along for his "better judgement." In her postscript she mentions she has included two new pieces to be published.
