Full-length studio portrait of Alice C. House, born in Chesterfield, Mass. and a resident of Haydenville (part of Williamsburg, Mass.) from 1870 until after 1900. She taught a Sunday school class and worked as a dressmaker and housekeeper, spending her later years in Agawam, Mass. The long tresses and elegant gown of which she was so clearly proud in her young womanhood did not win her a husband: she never married. The image is a standard-sized cabinet card, 4.25 x 6.5 inches.
