Alumna Mary Swift Lamson, member of the first class at Lexington Normal School. Graduated, April 4, 1840. Mary went on to work at the Perkins School for the Blind and was one of the teachers of Laura Bridgeman a deaf blind mute, that they worked to develop a finger-talk, so Laura could be brought into the world and communicate with her parents, and the outside world. Mary also was instrumental in the creation of the YWCA.
