Letter from James Miller M'Kim, Philadelphia, [Pa.], to William Lloyd Garrison, Nov[ember] 27 1869
Description:
James Miller M'Kim writes William Lloyd Garrison returning to their previous conversation concerning prayer, and states his belief in prayer as he personally understands it: as a "means of personal purification and elevation of Character". M'Kim adds, however, that he not believe that God "gives" in response to prayer, labeling such belief as foolish, and insisting that those who do pray out of desire for acquisition are far from God, and that God is not moved by such "importunity".
