Letter from Walter Hilliard Bidwell, New York, to Amos Augustus Phelps, 19 April 1843
Description:
W. H. Bidwell, the proprietor of the New York Evangelist, writes to Amos A. Phelps that he is unable to give Phelps the loan he asked. Responding to Phelps's inquiry, Bidwell says he would be happy to have Phelps as a resident correspondence in London if Phelps can stay in the location for 2 to 3 years. He then goes on discussing in further detail the plan to have “Mr. Johnson” occupy Phelps's pulpit during his absence and the compensation for Phelps's correspondence with the New York Evangelist from London. On a blank page, W [Bradford?] writes to discuss the possibility of setting up Phelps as a resident foreign correspondent for 3 or 4 papers in case Phelps is inclined to stay in England for a few years.
