Letter from Oliver Johnson, New York, [N.Y.], to William Lloyd Garrison, April 8, 1873
Description:
Oliver Johnson states that Garrison's tributes to Richard D. Webb and James Houghton will appear in that week's Christian Union. Johnson requests that Garrison strictly limit his articles for the Christian Union to one-half the space allotted to him in the Independent, as the Christian Union has much less available editorial space. Johnson stresses that they are requiring this of all their habitual writers and correspondents. Johnson states that Emily Faithfull's address was "capital". Johnson states that Lucretia Mott's address also went well, with her only mistake being having brought the names of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony into the matter. Johnson notes that at least she refrained from mentioning Victoria Woodhull in the speech, as well.
