Letter from George Washington Julian, Centreville, Ind., to William Lloyd Garrison, July 16, 1857
Description:
George Washington Julian states that he has just received a letter from Mr. Hull in which it appears "he has been made acquainted" with Julian's previous letter to Garrison. Julian asserts that Garrison must have misunderstood his motive in writing him, or otherwise his name would "have been withheld" as desired. Julian states that he had solely intended to convey to Garrison "certain facts which would probably modify [Garrison's] policy towards Mr. Hull", and had not imagined that his name would be used, or Hull appraised of the letter. Julian states he does not hold this against Garrison, nor does he hold any ill-will towards Hull, and exclaims that he had regretted sending the letter. Julian requests that Garrison send him this letter so that he may consult it if need be in response to Hull.
