Letter from Benjamin C. Bacon, [Philadelphia, Pa.], to OliverJohnson, March 8. 1874
Description:
Benjamin C. Bacon writes Oliver Johnson informing him that he had received Johnson's letter of March 5th that very day. Bacon writes his rememberances of various figures in the early days of the abolitionist movement, as requested by Johnson, for use in Johnson's history of the early days of the anti-slavery movement. Bacon announces that, prior to its closing, the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society provided "The Library Company of Philadelphia" with a complete set of the National Anti-Slavery Standard, a complete set of the Liberator, and a near-complete set of Pennsylvania Freeman. Bacon announces that the archives of the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society, along with those of the Female Society, were deposited with the Pennsylvania Historical Society. Bacon congratulates Johnson on his re-marriage, stating that it looks like a "case of gravitation of sects".
