Letter from Samuel May, Jr., Boston, [Mass.], to Edmund Quincy, Feb. 14, [18]67
Description:
Samuel May Jr. writes to Edmund Quincy to set up a meeting for finalizing a statement to the Master of Chancery. May asks Quincy to coordinate with William Lloyd Garrison for the meeting. He also mentions that John A. Andrew showed his interest in acting as a counsel for that matter. May wishes that Quincy will draw the paper, and say he agrees with him that [the bequest of Francis Jackson?] should all go for the Freedmen. May adds that he is against “the [immediate] expenditure of the whole,” because they will need funds for “maintenance of teachers resident among the people.” He says Freedmen will need teachers from the north.
