Letter from Samuel May, Jr., Leicester [Mass.], to Wendell Phillips Garrison, Aug. 13/[18]67
Description:
Samuel May Jr. writes to Wendell Phillips Garrison about the bequeathal of Francis Jackson’s estate. May says having William Lloyd Garrison’s letter published would suffice for the time being for the ongoing legal proceeding. While acknowledging the quality of article to which W. P. Garrison brought his attention, May says Francis Jackson “did not believe it right to use trust funds to sustain a journal,” and expresses his bemusement at the fact that neither William Lloyd Garrison nor Edmund Quincy recalled this.
