Letter from Thomas Russell, to William Lloyd Garrison, Oct[ober] 15 [1870]
Description:
Thomas Russell writes William Lloyd Garrison to inform him that the official invitation to the Pilgrim Society's celebration of the anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth has been sent, and expresses his hopes that Garrison will accept to be present as the representative of the anti-slavery cause. Russell states that it is necessary to have some of the "spiritual sons of the Pilgrims" on hand to "speak for them" to compensate for the "gross blunder" of the selection of Robert Winthrop as an orator for the occasion.
