Letter from Marianne Neill, Hampstead, [London, England], to William Lloyd Garrison, July 14th [1864]
Description:
Marianne Neill informs Garrison that this letter will be delivered to him by Professor Goldwin Smith of Oxford, who will be visiting the United States to gain a first-hand perspective of the state of American society during the war. Neill informs Garrison that Smith has written an admirable essay on the war, which she recommends he read. Neill declares her hope that Smith will be able to locate his friend Charles Morton while in the United States, and states her presumption that Garrison will introduce Smith to Wendell Phillips.
