Letter from Samuel May, Jr., Leicester, to Francis Jackson, May 18, 1840
Description:
Writing to Francis Jackson, Samuel May Jr. says he wants to correct the impression that his father had state that the opponents of Rev. John Pierpont had just put their charges against him on paper. May says that the New Organizationists will make any accusation, "however mean or flagrant," against the Massachusetts Anti-slavery society. A. St. Clair claimed that F.J. had paid the traveling expenses of friends of the Mass. Society going to the annual meeting in New York, in order to provide Garrison with support in his struggle with the New Organization. A man named Buffum claimed to have supplied St. Clair with this information. St. Clair referred S. M. Jr. to E. G. Loring for proof of "further & worse charges."
