Letter from Joseph Avery Howland, Worcester, [Mass.], to William Lloyd Garrison, April 10, 1853
Description:
Howland writes to Garrison citing his notice of a lack of motion to reform statutes pertaining to the upcoming constitutional convention of the society (save for those proposed by Lucy Stowe), & states that he believes that the Sabbath Laws as expressed in the statutes violate both the constitution itself and religious qualification statutes. Howland closes by privately suggesting to Garrison (i.e., explicitly requesting that the latter not publish this in "The Liberator") that he could perhaps raise this matter by petition at the convention.
