Letter from William M. Jones, Port au Prince, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Dec 23: 1846
Description:
In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, William M. Jones discusses matters relate to Phelps’s stay in Haiti, such as his use of horses and other requests. Jones says he and his wife are soon to visit the US on behalf of “the Board of the American Bap Free Mission Society.” He requests that Phelps write an article to back up the Board, and suggests topics for such an article, which includes Phelps’s view of Port au Prince as a mission station for a society and the need of achapel and a school house, etc. He thanks Phelps for his “kind offer,” saying that the preamble resolutions and the request of the Board took him and his associates by surprise. He says he “decided to go” although it would be painful to leave.
