Letter from William Jay, Bedford, to Amos Augustus Phelps, 7th Septr. 1833
Description:
In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, William Jay expresses his support for Phelps’s effort to publish a book on slavery. He then says that although he agrees with the content of the declaration Phelps wanted him to sign, he cannot sing it because he has “doubts of the expediency & propriety of volunteering the publication of my opinions in the mode you propose.”
