Wolfram d'Eschenbach tries in vain to keep Tannhäuser ready to continue the path to Venusberg. Suddenly a funeral song is heard - it has the premonition of Elizabeth's burial. Tannhäuser seems struck by lightning and paralyzed at the same time. On the left, at the bottom, we see the procession of funerals. On the right, Venus is naked and lies on clouds, exclaiming: "Woe! he is lost to me. (Wagner, Tannhäuser, act III, scene 3)
