This letter is presumably a rough draft.
Maria Weston Chapman replies to Rev. Amos Augustus Phelps's demand that John F. Emerson return his letter to him. Maria W. Chapman has the original of the letter and sends Rev. Phelps an attested copy. Chapman has been much distressed by observing Phelps's abandonment of the anti-slavery group to which she belongs.
