Holograph.
This unsigned, draft of a poem was presumably written by Maria Weston Chapman. It is entitled, "June, the King of Countr[y]man." The poem begins: "There once was a man much as ever you all; When the British came over he flurried and frowned; ..." On page two, following the poem, is the note: "A very rough copy."
This poem was written on a torn copy of a circular letter by Maria Weston Chapman to Dear Friend, dated Boston, 1840. For a complete copy of the circular letter, see Call No. Ms.A.9.2 v.14, p.98 .
