Item Information
Title:
Railroad sidings and lane off Rutherford Avenue behind prison, 1939
Description:
Railroad sidings and lane off Rutherford Avenue behind prison, 1939. To the south of Rutherford Avenue lie hundreds of acres of level ground, reclaimed from the old harbor, where railroad sidings connect with some of the largest milk companies in the east, and what was reputed to be at one time the largest potato shed in the world, together with fruit and vegetable and supply storehouses of many kinds. Many wild flowers and some escaped cultivated plants occur on the edges of the tracks and lanes. Occasionally, we have picked milkweed pods fairly close to Rutherford Ave. itself, and Michaelmas daisies for the church on the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels.
