Written in 1845, showing first Monument "erected A.D. 1794, by King Solomon's Lodge of Freemasons, constituted at Charlestown, 1783, in memory of Major General Warren and his associates who were slain on this Memorable spot, June 17, 1775." Published on the occasion of placing the tablets in the base of the old Monument. The wooden monument of 1794 stood on what was then Concord Street, at about the present 33 Monument Square, on a part of the Russell Pasture which was later purchased by the Bunker Hill Monument Association for the Monument Grounds.
