Holograph, signed.
Silas Hawley gave several lectures on "Christian union," and "the ministers were all out to hear, & the lash was put on to them without stint." Amos Farnsworth describes the effect: "They looked like sheep-stealers with halters on." A new church will be formed on the principles of Christian union. Dudley Phelps has denounced Christion union in the pulpit. Owing to bad weather, the anti-slavery fair in Lowell did not come off as well as Farnsworth hoped. Farnsworth writes: "The old organization is looking up in this quarter, & disorganization is looking down." Farnsworth is about to move to Boston, on the corner of Tremont and Boylston Streets, "where we can look into the country."
