The application for funds to finance Henry Clarke Wright's mission to England is not yet successful. William Lloyd Garrison mentions two donors who have given money to this mission. Samuel Elliott Coues in Portsmouth is unable to give money because of various financial responsibilities and a business depression. Garrison thinks that some of their friends are selfish: "They do not wish to lose you, and argue that you cannot now be spared for a purpose." Garrison comments on the attitude of Nathaniel Peabody Rogers. Mrs. Lydia Maria Child is overscrupulous in refusing to publish the resolutions of the Non-Resistance Society respecting Wright's mission. William Lloyd Garrison is quite ill, probably with scarlet fever. Isaac Knapp's wife died. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grafton Chapman have arrived safely in Haiti.
