The state of William Lloyd Garrison's throat and lungs makes it necessary for him to forego public speaking for a long time. He cannot speak in Portland, nor go to Worcester. He thinks Mr. May would like Henry Clarke Wright to go there with Charles Lenox Remond. Garrison must go back on his promise to attend the Harwich meeting.
In the postscript, William Lloyd Garrison writes: "Mr. May tells me he has secured the attendance of Adin Ballou and A. T. Foss at Worcester; so your presence will not be needed. You are expected to go to Harwich."
