Letter from Samuel May, Boston, to Richard Davis Webb, May 3, 1861
Description:
May sends James Redpath's "Echoes of Harper's Ferry" and other material about John Brown. He tells Webb that William Lloyd Garrison believes there is "a great deal of valuable matter about John Brown" in the "National Anti-Slavery Standard" that is not included in Redpath's biography. May proclaims that "never has the North been so united!" He describes the preparations for war and says that a blockade will be immediately established.
