An urgent invitation requesting May's presence at the New England Anti-Slavery Convention on May 28, 1839 in the Marlboro' Chapel reads, "There has not been, since the note of emancipation was first sounded, so much need of wisdom, prudence and brotherly love, in our deliberations as at the present time."
