Letter from Samuel May, Boston, to John Bishop Estlin, December 4 and 5, 1846
Description:
May describes packet ships, their rates, and their schedules. He tells about a pamphlet titled "Slave Power" by John G. Palfrey and comments on pamphlets he is sending to Estlin. May asks Estlin if he received the Cassium Marcellus Clay and Abby Kelley Foster portraits. May states that Mr. Palfrey "expressed very strongly his conviction that they who lived 20 y[ea]rs longer would see the complete overthrow of Slavery in this land." May condemns the Evangelical Alliance for supporting slavery and offers further commentary on William Lloyd Garrison's conduct in England and James Haughton's article on Mrs. Dana. May praises George Thompson and gives a biographical sketch of George Bancroft.
