Letter from John Bishop Estlin, Bristol, to Samuel May, September 2nd, 1847 - (Sep. 3rd)
Description:
Estlin objects strenuously to the deleting of "offensive personalities" from his Tagart letter by the editor of "The Christian Register." He says that a majority of the English Unitarians oppose the proposed address and that the abolition movement lacks a distinguished representation among the English clergy. Estlin says that the William Howitt's People's Journal dispute passes unnoticed. He thinks that some of the English Unitarians may protest against the attitude of William James, George Armstrong and others towards the American Unitarians. Estlin also thinks Frederick Douglass' friend, Mrs. Anna H. Richardson, sympathizes with the Liberty Party.
