Three fragments of correspondence from Samuel May, to John Bishop Estlin, [1848]
Description:
The first fragment consists of a partial envelope that is postmarked March 26, 1848 at Liverpool, and addressed to John Bishop Estlin at 47 Park Street. May's writing on the reverse of the envelope briefly discusses a statement by Reverend Livermore of Keene that James K. Polk was elected by the immigrant vote. May says that if this is accurate, the party hacks are to blame. The second fragment is dated April 13 and deals with the publication of a letter written by Reverend George Armstrong. The third fragment is undated and describes an accident in which May's father was seriously injured.
