Description:
James is amazed at the speed with which various European peoples have revolted against their rulers. He praises Theodore Parker and tells May that the English churches are divided on the subject of the authority and the objective of Christianity. James requests May to order a subscription to "The Christian Register" for him.

Mathematical annotation in May's hand is found near the address on the letter.
May's handwriting on the envelope reads, "Rec'd Apr. 23rd." May's handwriting near the address written on the letter reads, "Rec'd April 19."
The envelope is addressed to May at the "Office of the Liberator, 21 Cornhill, Boston." The address written on the letter reads, "Antislavery Office, 21 Cornhill, Boston."
