Letter from Samuel May, Boston, to Richard Davis Webb, April 24, 1855
Description:
May mentions a visit to England of his friend, the Reverend [Robert] Hassall of Worcester County. May acknowledges receipt of a financial account, which he discusses at length. He mentions Webb's domestic affliction and the appointment of Parker Pillsbury as English agent of the American Anti-Slavery Society. May refers again to the acquittal of Wendell Phillips and Theodore Parker and says that Phillips has had, "within a few weeks, invitations to address literary societies at ten different Colleges and Universities" and that, "previous to last summer, he had never ([May] believe[s] received a single invitation of the kind."
