Letter from Parker Pillsbury, Newcastle upon Tyne, [England], to Samuel May, November 22, 1855
Description:
Pillsbury praises the Annual Report and informs May that he published an article in the Scottish Press. He mentions visits to various persons: Miss Lane in Melrose, Miss Young in Jedburgh, and Mrs. Mawson in Newcastle. Pillsbury tells May that the English are apprehensive about a war with the United States. He says that he hopes Hunkerism will prevail over Free Soil Pharisseeism in the Massachusetts elections. Pillsbury commends a speech by Thomas Wentworth Higginson at the celebration of the "Gentlemen of Property and Standing" mob. He mentions his own experiences with this mob and discusses Joseph Barker.
