Letter from Samuel May, Leicester, Mass., to Richard Davis Webb, June 10, 1856
Description:
May announces to Webb that he is sending an extensive series of pamphlets and reports. He says that Parker Pillsbury has returned home. He describes the New England Convention in Faneuil Hall and says that "Kansas is subjugated to the Slave Power." May describes the attack on Lawrence, Kansas by pro-slavery raiders. He says that the invaders could probably have been defeated if the Franklin Pierce administration had not helped them. May mentions the attack on Charles Sumner by Preston Smith Brooks, and the nomination of James Buchanan.
