Receipt from Samuel Philbrick, Boston, to Samuel May, April 1, 1859
Description:
As the Treasurer for the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society, Philbrick signed a receipt for $5795 received from Samuel May for the proceeds of Maria Weston Chapman's fundraising plan for the anti-slavery cause.
Manuscript, signed.
May's handwriting on the envelope reads, "Belonging to S. May Jr. Sam'l Philbrick's Receipt in full."
The receipt appears to be mostly in the hand of Samuel May. Philbrick seems to have added a line to the end of the receipt before signing it.
