He mentions Parker Pillsbury, "one of the most morbidly sensitive persons [he] ever knew" and Pillsbury's resentment at Harriet Martineau's advice that he leave the American Anti-Slavery Society. May thinks that Maria Weston Chapman agrees with Miss Martineau. He discusses Dr. George Barrell Cheever's relation to the anti-slavery cause.
