Letter from Joseph Avery Howland, Worcester, [Mass.], to Samuel May, Oct. 8, 1859
Description:
Howland complains further of the termination of his agency with the American Anti-Slavery Society and asks the reason for his dismissal. He denies that his disrespect for the Executive Committee was a good reason and asks if he was supposed to support the society or its anti-slavery principles. He discusses the status of official and unofficial acts. Howland claims that there is no precedent for his dismissal and denies that he had three months' notice. He says he was not anxious to lecture in the winter due to his health.
