Letter from Samuel May, Leicester, Mass., to Richard Davis Webb, Sept. 19, 1865
Description:
May is distressed to hear of Webb's ill health. He describes a similar illness he had at one time himself. May mentions negotiations with a Mr. Suliot about a book Suliot was planning to write. He discusses literature about African Americans, reports that he has heard from Webb's son, Richard, and mentions a man named William H. Forbes. May says that his son Edward still suffers from malaria. He gives an account of the affairs of the Garrison family and informs Webb that "The Liberator" is to cease at the end of the year. May says that he wishes William Lloyd Garrison could find a good reform magazine to edit. He describes "The Nation" and the lithographic business of William H. Forbes. The conclusion of the letter is written from Boston on September 22.
