Washington walking with faculty during the academic procession to the ceremonies to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts on June 9, 1915. Booker T. Washington was a surprise speaker at the proceedings, delivering an eloquent address that spoke to the theme of the transformation of the freedman which had occurred in the fifty years since the schools founding in 1865.
