Letter from Amos Augustus Phelps, Boston, to Francis Jackson, Nov. 5. 1842
Description:
Amos A. Phelps writes to Francis Jackson that he could not accept Jackson’s invitation to speak at a Faneuil Hall meeting on behalf of George Latimer because Jackson’s note did not arrive until after the meeting. Phelps says that the recent court decision on the case is “annihilating the rights of the sovereignties of several states” and “much in violation of the Federal constitution.”
