Letter from Amos Augustus Phelps, [Boston], to Francis Jackson, [July 23, 1839]
Description:
Amos A. Phelps writes to Francis Jackson regarding J. G. Whittier’s request that Phelps escort Whittier’s sister to New York on his way to the Albany Convention. Not being able to attend the Albany Convention, Phelps asks whether Jackson will take her. Whittier also asked Phelps to urge W. E. Channing, J. Pierpont, and C. T. C. Follen to attend the Albany Convention. He asks Jackson to do so in his place. On the same sheet, Jackson’s rough draft says that he would accompany Miss Whittier to New York.
