Letter from Alfred Harry Love, Philad[elphia, Pa.], to William Lloyd Garrison, [June 16, 1865]
Description:
Alfred Love writes William Lloyd Garrison concerning an article of his which he had sent to the Standard shortly after the Anniversary meeting, which was held until the present week, and returned to Love. Love complains of the unfair treatment he has received after such a "long and pleasant connection" to the paper under Oliver Johnson's stewardship, and protests that there is nothing in his article "calculated to make controversy". Love forwards the article in question to Garrison for his review, and offers it for publication in the Liberator.
Holograph, signed.
Title devised by cataloger.
Manuscript includes an attached note from Oliver Johnson, editor of the National Anti-Slavery Standard, informing Love that his article, while excellent, is not to be published owing to the intention of the Standard to "avoid even the appearance of controversy".
