Correspondence between S. S. C. Abbott and A. A. Phelps, December 4-9, 1837
Description:
In reply to A. A. Phelps, S. S. C. Abbott writes that he has presented his view on slavery at his church, and that he deems it unproductive to do so again in immediate future. While he does not suspect he and Phelps differ in their view on slavery itself, he thinks they differ in the manner in which they present the subject, judging from Phelps’s letter to Fitch. In response to this letter, Phelps thanks Abbott for his honesty and asks for information concerning Abbott’s interpretation of Phelps’s letter to Fitch.
